The flicker of fire-coloured plumes applied to pale flesh ... it was a sight that Cecil wished was not so familiar. How long would he be able to continue?
Death's darkness clouded his vision often enough now, after all. It hovered so close the sky itself seemed wan and pale. Darkness gnawed away his spirit, and he had no one to blame but himself for it.
Some day that darkness would devour the last scrap of who he was; and no fiery down would bring him back.
